My name is Seva Harpriya Kaur.

Seva Harpriya means one who sees the the love in all beings and serves that divine love.  I aspire to serve and to live up to my spiritual name.  I love the sun and fire of all kinds, my daughter was born in front of a fire and I light one in our fireplace almost everyday.  I have reverence for the subtle mysteries of nature and a love of poetry in all its manifestations.  I practice Yoga to harmonize and strengthen my body as a vehicle for spirit.

 Yoga is my medicine, my temple and my space for communicating with the divine and emptying out the sub-conscious matter that can cloud my vision.  My classes travel deep into the healing field, offering students tools and opportunities to align with their higher selves using transformative Kriyas, Meditations and Mantra from the Kundalini yoga tradition.  My guru is my breath and the breath of the universe.  My path has been illuminated by many wise ones, namely, Gurumukh Kaur Khalsa, Gurushabd Singh Khalsa, Yogi Bhajan, Pema Chodron, Guru Dev Singh, Robert Vetter, and countless mystic poets, spiritual healers and seers from the worlds traditions.  My teacher at this moment in my life is Guru Dharam Singh Khalsa, with whom I study Kundalini medicine and yoga therapy.  I believe that when we begin walking with the Yogi’s and Rishi’s we travel close to a current of grace.  Beginning yogis require an openness to explore and receive in conjunction with a personal commitment to practice with genuine effort and integrity.  This balance between softness (opening to the grace) and firmness (creating a keep-up spirit) will start to make magic happen in the life of the practitioner.

Every time I practice yoga I experience a homecoming, that homecoming can be sweet and delicious or bitter and difficult, but by practicing over decades I can say that I have a degree of neutrality and a softer relationship to the polarities of good and bad.  Without yoga I imagine a neurotic life of defending myself and those I love, gathering nuts like a squirrel in the fall, and protecting my identity with a pretty far-out story.  I’ve been that person lit up from both sides, burning up and exhausted, out-of-tune, I’ve been a victim and I’ve hurt others, I’ve put myself before others and I’ve muted my inner-guides.  Yoga keeps me in the dharmic path and out of the karmic Samsara I have lived in.

You are the heaven and You are the earth,

You are the day and You are the night,

You are all pervading air

You are the sacred offering of rice and flowers and of water;

You are Yourself all in all,

What can I offer you?

-Lalashawari

In this lifetime I lived in the highest cabin in North America without running water or electricity, I’ve been a world-schooling mama of Aquarian children, I’ve birthed and nursed my babies and I’ve been fortunate to work in India and consider India my second home. My practice and teaching is rooted in a reverence for the subtle mysteries of nature and a love of poetry in all its manifestations.  I approach yoga as a practice to harmonize and strengthen the body as a vehicle for spirit. I have a special calling to work around grief and loss and run community grief rituals and days of remembrance and sorrow.

In my work as a yoga therapist, Kundalini Yoga teacher and intuitive ceremonialist, I hold space for individuals and couples to break though, resolve trauma and heal.  I have been running a weekly Shakti Circle for a decade, which I considers this circle her spiritual home.  I facilitate temezcals, ceremonies and trainings at Westways Sanctuary, which doubles as ashram and family home for my family of five, as well as at Illumina East, the Center for Integrated Medicine and on her annual retreat and pilgrimage to Mother India. Westways hosts visiting teachers from wisdom traditions, offers teacher trainings and Kundalini Yoga Medicine trainings with her teacher Guru Dharam Singh Khalsa. I co-lead an intensive, Soul Revival Camp in New Mexico this past July and will be leading our annual Journey to Mother India Retreat in March.
